  1. 1 Choose or drag in two PDFs: the original first, then the changed version.
  2. 2 Go through the pages: removed words are marked red on the left, added words green on the right.

  4. 4 Download the report if you need the list of changes.

About this tool

A contract comes back “with a few small edits”, a supplier sends a new version of the price list, a thesis has been through another round of corrections – and nobody marked what changed. Reading both versions line by line is slow and error-prone.

Add the two PDFs and the tool compares their text word by word, page by page. Words that were removed are highlighted in red on the original, new words in green on the changed version, right where they are on the page. The panel lists every change with the old and new wording; a tap jumps to it. Pages that exist in only one of the files are reported too. Upper and lower case can be ignored if only the wording matters.

Some changes are not in the text: a replaced logo, a moved table, a different signature or a scanned page. The Overlay view puts both versions on top of each other and paints every pixel that differs in red. A text report of all changes can be downloaded. Both documents stay on your device – the comparison runs entirely in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How are the PDFs compared?

The text of each page is compared word by word with the same page of the other file. The Overlay view additionally compares the rendered pages pixel by pixel.

Can I compare scanned documents?

Scans contain no text, so the word comparison finds nothing; use the Overlay view, which shows visual differences on scanned pages too.

What if pages were inserted or deleted?

Pages are compared by position. If a page was added, the following pages shift and show more differences; the list tells you which pages exist in only one file.

Can I save the result?

Yes. “Download report” saves a text file with every removed and added passage per page.

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. Both files are compared in your browser; nothing is sent to our server.
