About this tool

Quoting a passage, feeding text into a translator or an AI assistant, searching a long report, or reusing the content of a PDF – often you just need the plain text. This tool reads the text layer of each page in reading order. “Keep the lines” gives you the text as it appears on the page; “Join into paragraphs” removes the line breaks inside paragraphs and rejoins words split by hyphens, which is ideal for pasting into other documents. Page markers show where each page starts.

Scanned PDFs have no text layer. With OCR switched on, those pages are recognised in your browser in nine languages. The result can be copied with one tap or downloaded as a UTF-8 TXT file. Nothing is uploaded – your document stays on your device.

Why is the text of my PDF empty?

The pages are probably scanned images. Turn on “Recognise text on scanned pages” and choose the language of the text.

What is the difference between the two layouts?

“Keep the lines” keeps every line break as on the page. “Join into paragraphs” joins lines into paragraphs and repairs words split at the end of a line.

Can I extract text from several PDFs?

Yes. Each PDF becomes its own TXT file; download them separately or as a ZIP.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The text is read in your browser and nothing is sent to our server.
