About this tool

Theses, reports, contracts and print-outs are much easier to discuss and to put back in order when every page carries a number. This tool adds page numbers to an existing PDF and shows them on every page thumbnail while you change the settings, so what you see is what you get.

Choose one of six positions, a ready-made format (1, 1 / 10, Page 1, Page 1 of 10, – 1 –) or write your own text with {n} for the page number and {total} for the number of pages. The first number can be anything, for example 5 when the document continues another one; the cover or other pages can be left without a number, and for printed books the number can switch between the outer corners of left and right pages.

The numbers are written with a font that supports accented letters, and the rest of each page is copied unchanged. Everything happens in your browser: your document is not uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I leave the cover page without a number?

Press “Skip first page” under “Pages to number”. Numbering then starts on page 2 with the first number you set (usually 1 or 2).

Can I write “Page 3 of 12”?

Yes. Choose that format or type your own text: {n} becomes the page number and {total} the total number of pages.

What does swapping left and right do?

For printed books: odd pages get the number on the right, even pages on the left, so it is always on the outer edge.

Do the numbers work with accented letters such as č or é?

Yes. The text is written with an embedded font that includes them.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The numbers are added in your browser.
