About this tool
A scanned contract of 25 MB, a brochure full of photos, a presentation exported to PDF – too big for an e-mail attachment or the 10 MB limit of an upload form. Almost always the images are to blame: they are stored at far higher resolution than the page needs.
This tool finds every image in the PDF, measures how large it actually appears on the page and re-encodes it at the resolution of the chosen level: 220 dpi for print, 150 dpi for e-mail and screens, 96 dpi for the smallest file. Text, fonts, vector drawings, links, bookmarks and form fields are not touched, so they stay crisp and selectable. Unused objects and thumbnails are removed and the file is saved with compressed object streams. Greyscale conversion and removing the document information shrink it further.
You see the size before and after for every file. If a document cannot get smaller, you get the original back instead of a bigger copy. Everything happens in your browser – even confidential PDFs never leave your device.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will my PDF get?
PDFs with photos or scans often shrink by 50–90 %. Files that consist mostly of text are usually already compact and change little.
Will the text become blurry?
No. Only images are re-encoded; text and vector graphics are copied unchanged and stay sharp at any zoom.
Which level should I choose?
“Recommended” suits e-mail, screens and office printing. Choose “Less compression” for professional printing and “Strong” when you must stay under an upload limit.
Can I compress several PDFs at once?
Yes. Add all of them; each is compressed with the same settings and you download them separately or as a ZIP.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser and nothing is sent to our server.
