How to use: Annotate Image / Screenshot
- 1 Choose, drag in or paste a screenshot or photo.
- 2 Pick a tool: arrow, rectangle, oval, line, text, numbered step, highlighter or pen, and a colour.
- 3 Drag on the picture to draw; for text and steps, click where they should go. Ctrl+Z undoes.
- 4 Save the annotated image as PNG, JPG or another format.
About this tool
A screenshot with an arrow and a short note explains more than a paragraph of text: "click here", "this value is wrong", "step 1, 2, 3". Annotations are useful for tutorials and how-to guides, bug reports, feedback on designs, marking a spot on a map or plan, or pointing out a detail in a photo.
The tool has arrows, straight lines, rectangles and ovals (optionally with a semi-transparent fill), text with an outline that stays readable on any background, a highlighter that marks text like a real marker, free drawing with the pen, and numbered step markers that count up by themselves. Colours and thickness have one-click presets; sizes are relative to the image, so annotations look the same on a small screenshot and a large photo.
Every shape can be undone and redone (also with Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y). Screenshots can be pasted directly with Ctrl+V. The image is processed in your browser at full resolution and is not uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add text?
Choose the Text tool, type the text in the box (several lines are possible) and click on the picture where it should start.
How do numbered steps work?
Choose "Numbered step" and click the places in order: the markers are numbered 1, 2, 3 … automatically. Undo removes the last one.
Can I move or edit a shape after drawing it?
Not yet: use Undo (Ctrl+Z) and draw it again. Redo brings back what you undid.
Which format should I save screenshots in?
PNG keeps text and lines perfectly sharp. For photos, JPG or WebP give smaller files.
Are my screenshots uploaded?
No. Drawing and saving happen in your browser, so confidential screenshots stay on your device.
