How to use: Blur or Pixelate Part of an Image

  1. 1 Choose or drag in a photo or screenshot.
  2. 2 Drag on the picture to mark each face, number plate or text you want to hide; add as many areas as you need.
  3. 3 Choose Blur, Pixelate or Cover and set the strength.
  4. 4 Save the image; with several photos, the same areas are applied to all of them.

About this tool

Before you post a street photo, send a screenshot of a bank transfer or share a picture of a document, there is often something that shouldn't be visible: faces of strangers, children, licence plates, names, addresses, account or ID numbers. Mark those areas and they are blurred, pixelated or covered with a solid colour in the saved image.

You can mark as many rectangular or oval areas as you like, remove single ones from the list or start over. Blur and pixelation strength are adjustable; for really sensitive data such as card or ID numbers, "Cover" is the safest, because nothing of the original remains. The opposite is possible too: blur everything except the marked areas to put the focus on a person or product.

Because hiding private information is the whole point, nothing is uploaded: the effect is applied by your browser to the full-resolution image. Select several photos (for example a series from the same camera position) to apply the same areas to all of them and download a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Can a blurred or pixelated area be restored?

Light blur or large pixels over short text can sometimes be guessed or partially reconstructed. For card numbers, ID numbers and passwords use "Cover" or a strong setting.

Do the outlines and numbers end up in the saved image?

No. The dashed outlines and area numbers only help you on the preview; they are not saved.

Can I blur the background instead?

Yes. Mark the person or object and tick "Blur everything except the marked areas".

Does the original photo still contain the hidden details in its metadata?

The saved image is newly created and contains no EXIF data. The original file on your device is not changed.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, which is important for exactly this kind of private content.
