About this tool
Instagram, marketplaces and many profile and shop pages want square or portrait pictures. Cropping a wide landscape photo to a square cuts off the sides; this tool does the opposite: it keeps the entire photo and extends the canvas around it.
The free space can be filled with a blurred, slightly darkened copy of the same photo (the popular "blurred background" look), any colour, the photo's own average colour or transparency (PNG, WebP). A margin turns the photo into a framed card, and rounded corners plus a soft shadow give a modern look. You can align the photo to the centre, the left/top or the right/bottom.
Common ratios are one click away: 1:1 for posts, 4:5 for portrait posts, 9:16 for stories and reels, 16:9 for video thumbnails, 1.91:1 for link previews. Set the width to 1080 px for Instagram. Select several photos to process a whole set with the same settings as a ZIP. Everything runs in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from cropping?
Cropping removes parts of the photo to reach a ratio. This tool keeps the whole photo and adds space around it, so nothing is cut off.
Which size is best for Instagram?
Set the width to 1080 px: a 1:1 post becomes 1080 × 1080, 4:5 becomes 1080 × 1350 and a 9:16 story 1080 × 1920.
Can the background be transparent?
Yes. Choose "Transparency" and save as PNG, WebP or AVIF. JPG has no transparency, so the empty space becomes white.
Can I process many photos at once?
Yes. Select several files; they all get the same ratio, background and options, and you download them as a ZIP.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The new canvas is drawn by your browser; the photos stay on your device.
