How to use: Remove Background (Plain Colour)

  1. 1 Choose or drag in an image with a plain background.
  2. 2 The background around the edges disappears at once; click any remaining background spots (for example inside letters) to remove them too.
  3. 3 Raise the tolerance if some background is left, lower it if parts of the subject disappear; adjust edge softness.
  4. 4 Keep it transparent or pick a new background colour, then save as PNG.

About this tool

A logo on a white rectangle looks bad on a coloured website or slide, and product photos often need a transparent or different background. When the background is a single colour (white, grey, a green screen, a coloured wall), it can be removed precisely by colour, without uploading anything.

The tool starts from the image's corners and removes the background area connected to them, so white parts inside the subject (a white logo element, the whites of the eyes) stay untouched. Click enclosed background areas, such as the holes in letters like "O", to remove them as well, or switch to "This colour everywhere" to remove one colour throughout the image. Tolerance controls how similar a colour has to be; edge softness and edge colour removal avoid jagged or light halos around the subject.

This tool works by colour, not with AI: it's ideal for logos, graphics, scans, icons and studio product shots, but it can't separate a person from a busy photo background. Select several images to clean a whole set with the same settings and download a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Why did part of my subject disappear?

Its colour is too close to the background. Lower the tolerance, or use "Only the connected background area" so only background reachable from the edges is removed.

There is a light halo around the edges. How do I fix it?

Keep "Remove the background colour from edges" on and increase the edge softness a little, or raise the tolerance slightly.

Can it remove the background behind a person?

Only if the background is plain (e.g. a white or green wall). It works by colour, so busy backgrounds with many colours can't be separated.

Which format keeps the transparency?

PNG (default), WebP, AVIF, GIF, ICO or TIFF. JPG and BMP have no transparency, so the background becomes white.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The background is removed by your browser and the images stay on your device.
