About this tool
TIFF is a high-quality format used by scanners, printers, publishing and photo archives. Files are usually large, and browsers and many websites can't show them. JPG (also called JPEG) is the most widely supported photo format. It uses lossy compression to keep files small and has no transparency.
Converting to JPG is useful for sharing photos by email, uploading them to websites and forms, and opening them on any device. Multi-page TIFF files are converted using their first page. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default).
Files are converted in your browser and are not uploaded to a server. If a file is too large for your device, the tool explains why and asks before sending it anywhere. Hidden metadata such as the GPS location is not copied into the JPG.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your own browser, so your files stay on your device. Only if a file is too large for your browser does the tool offer server processing, and it asks you first.
Will I lose quality converting TIFF to JPG?
JPG uses lossy compression, so there is a small loss. At the default quality it is very hard to see; choose a higher quality for sharper files or a lower one for smaller files.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG doesn't support transparency. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose, white by default. Convert to PNG, WebP or AVIF if you need to keep transparency.
Can I convert multi-page TIFF files?
The first page is converted. Multi-page TIFFs, such as scanned documents, keep only that page in the JPG.
Is the image's metadata kept?
No. The JPG is created from the image pixels only, so EXIF data such as the GPS location, camera model and capture time is not copied. This is useful before sharing images online.
