Files to convert
Your images are processed in your browser and are not uploaded. If a file is too large for your browser or in a format it can’t handle, we ask before converting it on our server. The original is deleted right after conversion; the result is kept for 7 days for you to download, unless you delete it sooner. Privacy details
How to use: SVG to GIF
- 1 Choose or drag in one or more SVG files.
- 2 Choose the output size: the drawing's own size, a multiple of it, or an exact width in pixels.
- 3 Click Convert. The gear button next to a file opens its options; files you add afterwards are converted straight away.
- 4 Download the GIF files one by one, or all at once as a ZIP file.
About this tool
SVG is a vector format: it describes shapes instead of pixels, so it stays sharp at any size. Many programs, forms and social networks don't accept SVG files, though. GIF is an old, universally supported format limited to 256 colours, best known for simple animations.
Converting to GIF is useful for simple graphics and places that only accept GIF. Because an SVG has no fixed pixel size, you choose how large the GIF should be. The drawing is rendered at exactly that size, so it stays sharp. You can also paste SVG code directly instead of choosing a file. GIF can show at most 256 colours, so photos may look slightly grainy; it is best for graphics with few colours. GIF transparency is either on or off: fully transparent pixels stay transparent, soft semi-transparent edges become solid.
Files are converted in your browser and are not uploaded to a server. If a file is too large for your device, the tool explains why and asks before sending it anywhere. Hidden metadata such as the GPS location is not copied into the GIF.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your own browser, so your files stay on your device. Only if a file is too large for your browser does the tool offer server processing, and it asks you first.
Is the conversion lossless?
Yes. GIF stores every pixel exactly, so the image looks identical to the SVG.
Is transparency kept in the GIF?
Partly. GIF pixels are either fully transparent or fully opaque, so fully transparent areas stay transparent, while soft or semi-transparent edges become solid.
How big will the GIF image be?
By default it uses the size written in the SVG (or its viewBox). You can choose 2×, 3×, 4× or 8× that size, or an exact width; the height follows the proportions. The drawing is rendered at that size, so it stays sharp.
Why does the GIF look grainy?
GIF can store at most 256 colours. The tool picks the best 256 for your image, but photos with smooth gradients can still show some banding. For photos, PNG, JPG or WebP is a better choice.
Is the image's metadata kept?
No. The GIF is created from the image pixels only, so EXIF data such as the GPS location, camera model and capture time is not copied. This is useful before sharing images online.
