About this tool
A favicon is the small icon in browser tabs, bookmarks and on phone home screens. Each place wants a different size: browsers use 16 and 32 pixels, Windows up to 48, iPhones 180 and Android 192 and 512.
This generator makes all of them from one source: favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 pixel images, PNG favicons, the Apple touch icon (always with a background, as iOS requires), Android icons, a web manifest and the HTML to paste. If you start from an SVG logo, the SVG is included as a modern scalable favicon too.
Small sizes are reduced in several steps so edges stay crisp. Everything is created in your browser; your logo is not uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Which files do I need?
favicon.ico covers every browser. The PNG files and the Apple touch icon make the icon look sharp on high-resolution screens and phone home screens, and the manifest with the Android icons is used when someone adds your site to an Android home screen.
Where do I put the files?
In the root folder of your website, so that https://yoursite.com/favicon.ico works. Then paste the HTML lines into the <head> section of your pages (most website builders have a field for this).
What makes a good favicon?
A simple shape or one or two letters with strong contrast. Fine details and long text become unreadable at 16 pixels, so check the 16 px preview.
Why does the Apple icon have a background?
iOS shows transparent touch icons on a black background, which often looks wrong. The generator therefore always fills the Apple icon with your background colour, or white if you chose transparent.
Is my logo uploaded?
No. All icons are drawn by your own browser and the ZIP is created on your device.
