About this tool
OGG is a free, open container from Xiph.org, here with Theora video and Vorbis audio. AU is the simple uncompressed audio format of Sun and older Unix systems, also used by Java.
This converter takes the sound of your OGG video and saves it as AU, the right choice for Unix systems, Java programs and old software – for example the music of a clip, a recorded talk, lecture or interview, or the sound of your own phone videos. The sound keeps its quality by default; under “Options” you can choose the bitrate, mono or stereo, and cut out just the part you need. The picture and the video’s own data (such as the camera or the place it was filmed) are not copied into the audio file.
Files are converted on our server: the upload starts only after you confirm, the original is deleted after conversion and the result is kept for 7 days unless you delete it sooner.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert OGG to AU?
Choose or drop your OGG video, keep AU as the output and click Convert. After you confirm the upload, our server saves the sound of the video as AU and you download it.
Can I convert a YouTube video to AU?
We do not download videos from YouTube or any other website – that is against their terms of use. If you have the video file itself, for example a video you made and downloaded from YouTube Studio, or a clip saved on your phone or computer, drop it here and you get its sound as AU.
Will the sound keep its quality?
Yes. The sound is converted at high quality: “Auto” keeps the bitrate of the video’s own sound (at least 128 kbit/s). You can choose another bitrate under “Options”.
Can I keep only part of the sound?
Yes. Under “Options” enter a start and/or end time (for example 1:05 and 3:30) and only that part is saved.
How large can the video be?
Each file can be up to 300 MB and 10 hours long, and you can add up to 10 at once.
What happens to my video?
It is uploaded only after you confirm. The video is deleted as soon as the sound is saved, and the AU file is kept for 7 days unless you delete it sooner.
