How to use: M4R to 3GP

About this tool

M4R is the iPhone ringtone format: AAC sound of up to 40 seconds. 3GP is the classic video format of older mobile phones: very small files made for slow networks and small screens.

Video sites such as YouTube only accept video files. This converter turns your M4R sound into a 3GP video that shows the file’s cover art – or a black picture when there is none – for the whole length of the sound. That is all you need to publish music, a podcast episode or a recording. Choose 720p or 1080p and, if you like, only part of the sound under “Options”. The sound itself is encoded at high quality.

How do I convert M4R to 3GP?

Choose or drop your M4R file, keep 3GP as the output and click Convert. After you confirm the upload, our server makes a 3GP video with your sound and you download it.

What does the video show?

The cover art stored in the M4R file, centred on a black background. When the file has no cover – or you choose “Black” under “Options” – the video is simply black.

Can I upload the result to YouTube?

Yes. YouTube only accepts video files, so music, podcasts and recordings have to become a video first. MP4 is the format YouTube recommends; choose 1080p for the sharpest cover picture.

Does the sound lose quality?

The sound is encoded at a high bitrate for the 3GP format, so the difference is not audible in normal listening.

How long can the audio be?

Up to 10 hours and 300 MB per file; you can add up to 10 files at once.

What happens to my files?

They are uploaded only after you confirm. The original is deleted as soon as the video is made, and the 3GP file is kept for 7 days unless you delete it sooner.
