About this tool
AIFC (AIFF-C) is the newer variant of Apple’s AIFF format that can also hold compressed or little-endian sound. M4R is the iPhone ringtone format: AAC sound of up to 40 seconds.
This converter turns your AIFC files into M4R, the right choice for ringtones and alert sounds on the iPhone. By default the sound keeps its full quality and its title, artist, album and cover art; open “Options” to choose a bitrate, sample rate or mono/stereo, or to cut out just the part you need. Add up to 10 files at once – each one is converted in the background, so you can keep using the site and download every result as soon as it is ready.
Files are converted on our server: the upload starts only after you confirm, the original is deleted after conversion and the result is kept for 7 days unless you delete it sooner.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert AIFC to M4R?
Choose or drop your AIFC file, keep M4R as the output and click Convert. After you confirm the upload, our server converts it and shows the progress; then you download the M4R file.
Will the sound lose quality?
We convert at full quality by default: lossless formats stay lossless, and for compressed formats “Auto” keeps the bitrate of the original (at least 128 kbit/s). Converting a compressed file into a lossless format cannot bring back detail that was already removed, but it adds no further loss.
Are the title, artist and cover kept?
Yes. Tags such as title, artist and album are copied to the M4R file whenever the format can store them, and cover art too for MP3, M4A and FLAC. You can turn this off in “Options”.
Can I cut the audio?
Yes. Under “Options” enter a start and/or end time (for example 0:30 and 1:45) and only that part is converted.
Can I convert several files at once?
Yes, up to 10 at a time, each with its own progress. A file can be up to 300 MB and 10 hours long.
What happens to my files?
They are uploaded only after you confirm. The original is deleted as soon as the conversion is finished, and the M4R file is kept for 7 days so you can download it – you can delete it yourself at any time.
Can I use the M4R file as an iPhone ringtone?
Yes. iPhone ringtones play at most 40 seconds, so the M4R file is cut to 40 seconds from the start time you choose under “Options” (the beginning by default). Add it to your iPhone with Finder, iTunes or GarageBand.
